A Colorado college student was shot and killed, while another was severely injured, following a horrifying shooting at a house party on Halloween night.

Boulder Police responded to a call at around 11.28pm on Saturday night in the University Hill neighborhood following reports of a shooting, as a University of Colorado Boulder student, 19, was shot.

The student who has not yet been identified was transported to Boulder Community Hospital where he died of his injuries on Sunday morning.

Another male student from the same college, also 19 years old, was injured and remains in critical condition, police said.

Officers had received a noise complaint earlier in the night, causing a party to end and hundreds to disperse from the area on Marine Street.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said at a news conference that the party was registered in advance by its organizers with the university and featured a live band.

The residents of the home were cited for having a nuisance party, and a small group of remained inside the home, according to police.

‘Detective believe a group of individuals later attempted to force their way into the house,’ investigators said. ‘Shortly after that scuffle, shots were fired inside the home, striking the two victims.’

Police are now on the hunt for persons of interest involved in the tragedy, including a man with short, dark hair and facial hair who had been wearing a red hooded sweatshirt under a black jacket.

A second person of interest was described by police as a man with short, dark hair who was wearing a black shirt with Art the Clown from the Terrifier franchise on it and a silver-colored chain necklace.

Ring camera footage shared by the police department showed people, including the two persons of interest, leaving with a group before spinning back around and re-entering the home.

Residents and homeowners were allowed to return to their homes by around 2am, with the suspects believed to have left the city by that same, BPD said.

Redfearn said: ‘My heart breaks for the victims and for everyone impacted by this senseless violence. Our community deserves to feel safe, and we will not accept this kind of violence in Boulder.’

‘I want to assure these families and our community that we are doing everything in our power to find those responsible and hold them accountable,’ Redfearn added.

The University of Colorado Boulder said in a statement that officials were ‘deeply saddened’ to announce that a student had been killed and another critically injured following an ‘off-campus overnight shooting.’

‘This is an incredibly traumatic event for our campus community. Our thoughts and sympathies are with all those impacted by this tragedy, especially those students, families, faculty and staff who have been directly impacted or experienced significant loss,’ the statement continued.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said at a news conference that the party was registered in advance with the university and featured a live band with ‘hundreds’ of attendees

‘The health, safety and well-being of our community is our top priority. The Boulder Police Department is investigating, and BPD and CUPD will have additional officers patrolling in the University Hill neighborhood in response to the incident.

‘We are also working closely with those we know to be directly impacted to provide them with support. We want our campus to know there are resources available to anyone to help them navigate this difficult time.’

Nicole Speer of Boulder City Council said she is ‘devastated for the victim’s family, friends and classmates and the entire CU community as they mourn the death of a 19-year-old student after last night’s shooting.’

‘My thoughts are especially with those closest to him, including the family members who received unimaginable news this morning and those who witnessed this traumatic event,’ Speer added.

‘Everyone deserves to feel safe whether they are at home, in class, at work, or gathered with friends. Violence leaves behind so much grief and trauma. My heart is with everyone carrying that burden today and in the weeks, months, and years ahead.’

The Daily Mail reached out to the Boulder Police Department for comment.

This is a breaking news story.
