Lightweight Robert Meriwether III took on Cesar Correa in a scheduled six rounder. Meriwether was infinite levels above Correa in this match. Hand speed, power, skill level. We’re all on display as Meriwether did as he pleased throughout, sending Correa’s mouthpiece flying in the second round. If nothing else, Correa showed heart and guts despite being completely outclassed and hurt on several occasions. Meriwether didn’t get discouraged, despite dislodging Correa’s mouthpiece again late in the fight, not being able to put his man down and Correa landing his own combinations intermittently. In the end, the judges saw it: 60-54 x 2 and 59-55, all for Meriwether III, now 10-0, 4 KOs. Correa.los s his first ist at 5-0, 4 KOs.
Highly touted former amateur star Troy Nash took on fellow undefeated Jaycob Ramos in the first ever fight under Zuffa boxing at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas tonight.
(Zuffa has decided to recognize boxing’s original eight weight classes with no junior or super divisions. These two combatants weighed in at 128 lb, 2 lb over the traditional featherweight limit of 126, therefore they were labeled as lightweights.)
For his part, Ramos didn’t read the script which had him as a big underdog despite his undefeated record. He was extremely competitive, coming forward and trying his best to match or even out throw and outland Nash. Ramos especially concentrated on the body more so than Nash did. The judges saw it as follows: 59-55 x 2 and 58-52 all for Nash, who moves to 6-0-1, 1 KOs, while Ramos falls to 4-0, 1 KO.
