Former Kotoko players, Yussif Chibsah has called for the introduction of a quota system in the selection of players for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, as debate intensifies over squad composition under new head coach Carlos Queiroz.

Chibsah, a former Asante Kotoko midfielder and a product of the domestic league, believes a structured blend of foreign-based players and those competing in the Ghana Premier League will strengthen the national team.

Speaking in an interview, he stressed the need to create opportunities for locally based players to prove themselves at the highest level.

“We cannot continue to ignore Ghana Premier League players. There must be a quota system to ensure they are represented in the Black Stars,” he said, adding that exposure is key to assessing and developing their potential.

His comments come as Queiroz continues to assess talent, having recently watched the Black Galaxies—made up of home-based players—in friendly matches against Heart of Lions and Aduana FC.

Queiroz is expected to name his squad for upcoming international friendlies in May ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
