The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Mfantseman Municipality (MCE), Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, has officially announced that any individual who wishes to operate a tricycle, commonly referred to as Pragyia/Okada in his municipality, must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and be a registered member of the Mfantseman Pragyia Association.

He emphasized that any individual who fails to comply with these simple directives will be held accountable and face the full consequences of the law.

Mr. Acquah, affectionately referred to as Mfantseman K. K., made these remarks on Thursday, 3rd July, 2025, when the leadership of the Mankessim Pragyia Association formally paid him a courtesy call at his Saltpond office. The gesture was to welcome him, pledging their unwavering support in assisting him to achieve the resetting agenda of the Municipality.

Moreover, the Mfantseman M.C.E. observed that given the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s, vision to formalise and legalise commercial tricycle and motorcycle operations, the existence of a well-organised association within the Municipality is indeed commendable.

Regarding the Mankessim Pragyia Association’s ongoing clean-up initiative, and the filling of major potholes around the municipality, the MCE took the opportunity to not only commend them for a job well done but also urged them to do more as part of their social corporate responsibilities to improve the municipality’s cleanliness.

In his effort to boost the morale of the association, he pledged his support for their activities, assuring them of briefing the president of the republic about their remarkable achievements, worthy of being piloted nationwide. According to the M.C.E, this would significantly support the president’s vision of regularizing and legalizing Pragyia/okada operations across the country.

On his part, the patron of the Mankessim Pragyia Association, Osiadeyo Adu Gyamfi Marfo, commended the Mankessim Divisional Police, particularly the MTTD Commander, ASP Beatrice Sintim Koree, for her unwavering guidance and support in making the association’s work a reality.

Mr. Marfo, who also serves as the Manager of Kingdom FM, informed the M.C.E. and the assembly to call upon the Association whenever their services would be required in the development of the Municipality, in order to achieve the president’s envisioned resetting agenda.

He highlighted the filling of potholes on the Mankessim, Saltpond, Cape Coast highway by the association, which was previously a hazardous stretch of road and has consequently reduced the incidence of accidents.

The Chairman of the association, Mr. Mahama Joshua, respectfully requested official office accommodation to enhance the functionality of their operations. “I also implore the assembly to improve road conditions, thereby enhancing accessibility and the transportation of goods, services, and passengers,” he respectfully requested.

As the government prepares to legislate and regularize the operations of commercial tricycles and motorcycles in the country, some assemblies are already grappling with how to manage their activities. The Mankessim Pragyia Association has made a bold statement by meaningfully contributing to the socio-developmental activities of Mfantseman. Will their efforts be replicated nationwide? Only time will tell.
