The Acting CEO of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), Ing Kwadwo Twum Boafo, has issued a stern warning to renowned dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, to tread cautiously and avoid entanglement in criminal activities following his interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking in an interview on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, August 22, 2025, Ing Twum Boafo, a self-professed ardent admirer of Shatta Wale’s music, cautioned the artiste about the potential consequences he could face if he fails to conduct himself appropriately.
The head of the FIC, one of Ghana’s premier intelligence institutions, urged the dancehall star to focus on producing exceptional music and steer clear of actions that could result in his extradition to the United States over alleged involvement in fraudulent activities.
“Shatta, most of us listen to your music; we are proud of you. We are proud of where you came from and where you have gotten to. One of the proudest moments I can recall was when I heard that you were recording a song with Beyoncé. I knew that was the moment of emancipation for many people like you, and an example for young people on how to be persistent to achieve.

“So, for your own sake, don’t get involved in a criminal enterprise, racketeering, that can result in you being extradited to the United States to face justice,” he said.
The FIC boss further told Shatta Wale that the outpouring of support he received during his EOCO detention would not be the same if he were extradited to the US.
“You have a following. Yesterday we saw them. That applies insofar as we are here. When some of us were taken to EOCO, we didn’t have any following. Several times we were taken there and nobody knew. But if you get to the point where the FBI wants to extradite you to the States because you are a suspect in racketeering, your fans cannot get a visa to follow you there,” he warned.
