Aboubakar Ouattara is the head coach of Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, has criticised some of the club’s supporters for prioritising European clubs over their team, despite Hearts ending the season on a positive note.

The Phobians secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Samartex on the final day of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Konadu Yiadom scored the only goal early in the second half to seal all three points, extending Hearts’ unbeaten run to six matches, three wins and three draws.

The result saw Hearts finish level on points with arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, who suffered a 3-1 defeat to Vision FC.

However, the Phobians still ended the season five points behind league champions Bibiani GoldStars and failed to secure a top four spot.

Speaking after the match, Ouattara hit back at his critics and expressed his disappointment with fans who, in his view, failed to support the team when it mattered most.

“Now I am popular in Ghana because if you are listening to the radio, it’s Ouattara staying or leaving discussions. You leave Hearts of Oak and support Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona,” he said.

Hearts of Oak was tipped to challenge for the title this season after narrowly avoiding relegation last year.

However, inconsistency, disjointed performances, and growing fan unrest disrupted their campaign.

Despite finishing strong, Ouattara’s future remains uncertain, with speculation growing that he may not remain in charge next season.
