Ghanaian coach Isaac Opeele Boateng has criticised media personality Serwaa Amihere for raising concerns about the marketing and promotion of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Amihere, in a tweet on X, chastised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) under the leadership of Kurt Okraku for not putting in much effort to promote the GPL, leading to the low attendance at the recent Kotoko-Hearts of Oak game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

She implored the GFA to fix security at stadiums, invest in marketing the game to attract fans, incentivize and remunerate match officials properly, and get improved playing pitches.

However, her remarks were met with backlash from Coach Opeele, who described the comments as “shallow” which tends to be misleading.

The former Asante Kotoko coach advised Amihere to be measured in her criticisms because she has no knowledge about football as a media personality, urging her to focus on her job.

He suggested that the problems regarding football involve a great number of factors, hence the GFA cannot be solely blamed for the setbacks.

“Serwaa Amihere, come again! Your shallow look at Ghana football is weirdly insipid. Very funny, like a sports journalist talking about politics on X and being asked to concentrate on sports. She has no knowledge about football. The deep-seated woes of our Ghana football are myriad,” he wrote on X.

The Kotoko-Hearts of Oak game ended goalless, with both teams missing chances that could have excited the game.

The poor attendance at the stadium has raised concerns about marketing and the declining nature of the Premier League, which has raised concerns among stakeholders.
