Highlife musician Mzbel has shared her experiences as a Christian, detailing the challenges she faced that led to her decision to stop attending church.

In an interview with Empress Gifty on February 2, 2025, Mzbel revealed that a pastor at one of the churches she attended frequently deceived the congregation, which ultimately influenced her decision to leave.

Mzbel, a former member of the Church of Pentecost and the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Christ Temple, further disclosed that she also stopped attending church due to constant criticism from some members.

“I don’t attend church anymore because there was a pastor who would tell the congregation not to do certain things but would secretly do them himself. I took the church seriously, but meanwhile, if the pastor told us to fast, he would be in his office eating. His wife was the one who brought him food from home. So while we were breaking our fast at 6 PM, he would break his at 12 PM.

“It felt like there was something hidden, and I needed to find out the truth. After uncovering it, I decided not to attend church anymore,” she recounted.

Mzbel continued, “It wasn’t just one pastor, I tried three different churches before finally deciding to stop going altogether. You can know God without going to church. I was once a Pentecostal and even a Sunday school teacher. I left the Church of Pentecost because it was too strict. After that, I moved to ICGC Christ Temple, but the way I was received felt very judgmental.”
