GhanaWeb reports that Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has refuted claims that the ruling party lacks strength in Parliament, stating that real strength is shown through the implementation of policies rather than through confrontational strategies.

Despite the seeming showmanship of ministerial approvals, Ayariga stated in an interview with Kafui Dey on GTV that MyNewsGH reported that the majority was able to accomplish its objective without stifling opposing viewpoints.

Instead of stifling criticism, he underlined that the core of democracy is promoting discussion.

He said the goal was to make sure all the candidates who had been screened were approved, giving the minority a chance to express their concerns and, in the end, achieving the intended results quickly.

Ayariga responded to allegations of Minority pressure by stating that their strategy was intentional.

He clarified that it is crucial to let conversations develop organically before reaching a decision.

He also talked about how the Speaker had suspended certain whips, saying it was an essential measure to keep Parliamentarians in line.

While many new MPs are still getting used to parliamentary procedures and etiquette, Ayariga admitted that this will change with time.

He noted that wearing casual items like T-shirts or jeans could lead to ridicule from colleagues.

“You cannot wear a T-shirt or jeans to Parliament. If you do, expect to be heckled by your colleagues,” he added.

Ayariga reiterated his dedication to upholding democratic principles while ensuring the smooth functioning of government operations, stating that achieving their goals without resorting to intimidation exemplifies true political strength.
