Popular Ghanaian actor and sports enthusiast, Samuel Yaw Dabo, has voiced strong concerns over the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) approach to invigilation during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Dabo’s comments come in the wake of a viral incident involving a WAEC official and an invigilator found with leaked exam questions.

The incident, as reported by Joy News, took place at the Armed Forces Secondary School in Burma Camp, where a WAEC inspection team encountered a suspicious invigilator.

His unusual dressing raised red flags, leading to the discovery of leaked questions for Picture Making and Oral English on his phone.

WAEC has since confiscated the device and initiated an investigation.

However, a video of the routine inspection shows WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, walking through the exam hall and at one point, interrupting a student to inspect his paper.

It is this type of action that has drawn the ire of Yaw Dabo.

In a new video, the actor can be seen lamenting that WAEC’s “Rambo-style” invigilation tactics, which he believes include the deployment of military officers to act as invigilators, are causing unnecessary fear and panic among the students.

Dabo argued that these methods could negatively impact the students’ concentration and performance.

Dabo’s criticism highlights a growing debate about the balance between ensuring exam integrity and creating a conducive, stress-free environment for students.

While WAEC maintains that its strict measures are necessary to curb widespread malpractice, the actor and many others believe these actions may be doing more harm than good, intimidating students who are already under immense pressure.

Kumawood actor and sports executive, Yaw Dabo has bemoaned the presence of military personnel and other officials at WASSCE examination centers, stressing that such acts do not provide an enabling environment for students to flourish and perform soundly. pic.twitter.com/jdk5fN2FPm
