The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has stated that his outfit is determined to restore the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex to its former glory after years of abandonment.
The sports complex, located at Kaneshie, has become overgrown with weeds due to a lack of maintenance by the authorities.
The NSA has initiated efforts to clear the pitch, deploying two excavators to the site, with officials present to supervise and monitor the progress of the work.

Speaking to the media about the exercise, Ankrah noted that all stakeholders have joined forces to restore the sports complex and give it a much-needed facelift.
He also emphasised that maintaining the facility will support President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy.
“It is not beyond repair. That is why the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South is here, the Accra Mayor is also here, and the sports ministry is represented as well. What has happened in the past should serve as a warning and a guide, no matter how bad it is, we can always try to fix it.
“President Mahama has told us that the reset is not an event; it is continuous. The 24-hour economy will be activated here because we can host events during both day and night. After this, we will work towards revamping the sports complex, it’s a step-by-step process,” he said.
