Actress and producer, Xandy Kamel, has taken a swipe at Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams after he hinted recently about the possible appointment of Kumawood actor and football administrator Yaw Dabo as Ghana’s Grassroots Football Ambassador.

Xandy Kamel, who was one of the creatives that publicly campaigned massively for the NDC ahead of the 2024 general elections, expressed her displeasure in a Facebook post.

She questioned why the ministry would consider someone who allegedly openly campaigned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and criticized then-candidate John Dramani Mahama.

Reacting to the Minister’s praise of Dabo’s achievements and the revelation that he may soon be appointed to the ambassadorial role, Xandy Kamel wrote:

“Yaw Dabo, who campaigned for Nana Addo and insulted JM, has been appointed as ‘Grassroots Football Ambassador’? I want to cry.”

Her reaction adds to the growing chorus of some NDC supporters who believe the appointment is inconsistent with the values and expectations of the new NDC-led administration.

Earlier, Sports Minister Kofi Adams had publicly lauded Yaw Dabo’s efforts in football development when the young actor paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.

The Minister compared Dabo’s impact to that of football legend Abedi Pele, who was recently appointed to the Inter-Ministerial Advisory Board on Sports, stating that Dabo equally deserves recognition for his work at the foundational level of Ghana’s football structure.

He emphasized that Dabo’s investment in underprivileged young footballers through the Dabo Soccer Academy, founded in 2020, has made him a standout figure in grassroots sports. The academy, based in Kumasi, has provided structured training, education, and international exposure for young talents, with some players earning trial opportunities in Europe.
