Ghanaian journalist Bridget Otoo has expressed dissatisfaction with the food provided for some students under the free Senior High School policy.

In a post shared on X on November 17, 2024, the outspoken journalist raised concerns about some alleged expired rice used to feed these students.

“This is the best before… will they let their own children eat this poison?” she asked.

Meanwhile, some social media users have expressed their concerns about the issue. While some have criticised the government as corrupt, others have described the government as insensitive.

    Background

Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on November 14, 2024, alleged that some 22,000 bags of expired and repackaged rice were distributed to Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country in February of this year.

Okudzeto Ablakwa insisted that the National Food Buffer Stock Company conspired with a company known as Lamens Investments Africa Limited to carry out this disservice.

He also added that the Buffer Stock storage facility in the Ashanti region was used to repackage the rice brought from India, branded as ‘Moshosho’, which expired in December 2023.

Honestly, there’s corruption and there’s pure wickedness with evil intentions! What they did here is the latter!

Is the government responsible for managing stored items? If supplies have expired or gone bad due to poor storage, recipients should inform the supplier to arrange for their removal. What’s the issue here? Are they being forced to consume spoiled goods?
