World famous skydiver, Pierre Wolnik has lost his life during a jump in Mont Blanc after a miscalculated altitude.

According to The Sun, the French freefall champion leapt from a helicopter above the Alpine mountain range intending to fly.

Reports indicate that the 37-year-old’s parachute failed to deploy despite several attempts to activate it, and he eventually fell.

The two-time world skydiving champion reportedly slammed into the ground at high speed in the Bossons area, sustaining severe injuries.

Medics did their best to save him, but his injuries were too extreme. He was eventually pronounced dead and transported by helicopter from the site.

The legendary French freefall athlete was crowned wingsuit world champion in both 2022 and 2024 and had been widely tipped to defend his title at the 2026 championships.

French Parachuting Federation president Yves-Marie Guillot paid tribute to Wolnik, urging his bereaved family and teammates to stay strong in such trying times.

“The entire sport parachuting community mourns the loss of a talented young man with such a warm smile. Our condolences go first and foremost to his family and loved ones, but also to his teammates and the entire French team,” Yves-Marie wrote on Facebook.

French authorities have launched an investigation into the case to determine the root cause of the fatal accident.
