Worlasi called for a monument to be set up in Ebo Taylor's honor Worlasi called for a monument to be set up in Ebo Taylor’s honor

Ghanaian musician Worlasi has criticised leaders in the creative arts industry for doing little to honour veteran icons.

His comments come in the wake of the passing of legendary Ghanaian Highlife pioneer Ebo Taylor, who died on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90.

The renowned highlife guitarist, arranger, and singer-songwriter passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90.

Taking to his X handle on February 23, 2026, Worlasi called for a monument to be set up in Ebo Taylor’s honor.

“Ebo Taylor needs a statue!” he wrote.

He further questioned why creative arts leaders do very little to honor iconic veteran musicians.

“WHY is it that when music legends pass, our ‘leaders’ in the music & art industry seem to do little to honour them? Educate me on this if I’m wrong,” he added.

He further pointed out Ebo Taylor’s contributions to West African music, which helped define both the Highlife and the Nigerian Afrobeats genres. Including how Ebo Taylor influenced Nigerian Afrobeats

“Mr. Taylor inspired Fela Kuti!” he noted.

Worlasi’s call comes amid heightened opinions on how veteran creatives are honoured in the country.

Following the passing of another Highlife icon, Daddy Lumba in 2025, similar calls were made for a statue to be held in honor of him.
