Former Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng, has revealed that it was an honour to work for the country.

The former Aston Villa U-23 head coach was named as part of Black Stars’ technical set-up headed by Otto Addo ahead of the 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria.

Following the qualification of the team, Boateng, together with Didi Dramani, were all retained ahead of the Mundial in Qatar.

Born in Ghana but represented the Dutch national team at the international level, Boateng said it was a huge honour for him to serve the country.

“I always feel I owe Ghana something because I could not play for them, and so when I had the opportunity to work as an assistant coach, I was honoured,” he told Premier League Production.

Boateng, however, expressed his disappointment after failing to qualify from the group phase of the World Cup and the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

“I worked with Otto Addo and Chris Hughton, but it was disappointing that we could not qualify from the group phase of the World Cup and the AFCON. Working for Ghana was an honour,” Boateng added.

George Boateng left his role after the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
