Woman killed in tragic accident at Bortianor bus stop on Mallam-Kasoa highway

A tragic road accident at the Bortianor bus stop on the Mallam-Kasoa highway has claimed the life of a woman attempting to cross the busy road.

The incident involved a long truck, with registration number WR 1475-13, which struck the victim while she stood on by the road.

According to adomonline.com report on June 21, 2025, the driver of the truck had swerved off the main carriageway in an attempt to avoid colliding with other vehicles that had stopped to allow pedestrians to cross.

In the process, the truck fatally ran over the woman.

“The woman didn’t see the truck coming because this road lacks adequate lighting. From Mallam Junction to Kasoa, the streetlights are there, but they don’t work. It’s extremely dangerous for people crossing at night,” a bystander stated.

The accident has once again raised alarms over pedestrian safety and poor infrastructure on one of Accra’s busiest road corridors.

The lack of functional streetlights and designated pedestrian crossings has made nighttime travel particularly perilous for both motorists and pedestrians.

Residents and commuters are calling on local authorities and the Ghana Highways Authority to urgently fix the faulty streetlights and implement comprehensive road safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
