A woman has died after a car slammed into the dining area of a shopping centre.
The woman was on a pedestrian crossing outside Westfield Knox in Wantirna South, Melbourne‘s east, when a grey Tesla crashed into a restaurant outside the main centre about 12.45pm on Monday.
She died at the scene and has not been formally identified, but is understood to be 27 years old.
The driver, a 55-year-old woman, and a passenger were taken to Alfred Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another customer was also treated at the scene by paramedics.
Inspector Ben Gordon told reporters early investigations indicated the driver didn’t give way to pedestrians at the crossing and swerved into a restaurant, Martini and Co.
‘Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will attend to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,’ Victoria Police said in a statement.
‘Police do not believe the incident was an intentional act.’
