An elderly woman has died after an alleged attack outside a Lidl which saw another old-age pensioner injured in the chaos.

A man, 67, and woman, 62, have been arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter following the horrifying incident in front of the supermarket in Stourport-on-Severn near Kidderminster, West Midlands.

The altercation between 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday left the woman, 71, and another elderly man, 65, injured before the woman was pronounced dead the following day.

Police initially brought two people into custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, but this was changed following the news of the victim’s death, the Birmingham Mail reports.

A statement from West Mercia Police said: ‘Sadly, the 71-year-old woman involved in the incident outside of Lidl in Stourport yesterday has since passed away.

‘The 62-year-old woman and the 67-year-old man who were arrested following the incident have been further arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.

‘Enquiries remain on-going surrounding the circumstances of the incident.

‘We would ask the public to refrain from speculating online and respect her family’s privacy at this difficult time.’

A previous statement said: ‘We’re appealing for witnesses following an assault outside of the Lidl in Stourport on Vale Road, between 4pm and 8pm yesterday.

‘Four people were reportedly involved in the altercation.

‘A 65-year-old man and 71-year-old woman were allegedly assaulted. They all then left the area.

‘A 62-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody.

‘Officers are now appealing to the public for information.’

Detective Inspector Warren Matthews of North Worcestershire CID, meanwhile, said: ‘Enquiries are on-going to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

‘We are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have dash-cam footage from Lidl car park.

‘Please get in contact with us if you think you have information which could help in our investigation.’
