Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has thrown subtle jabs at a certain musician’s constant claims of being the king of African dancehall.
In an interview on Onua Showtime, shared on X on February 23, 2026, Samini said he was the one who introduced the term “African Dancehall.”
He explained that the individual might not have proclaimed himself as a dancehall king if he(Samini) had not first coined the term “African Dancehall.”
Foreign music should inspire Ghanaian artistes, not cause concern – Samini
“I said African Dancehall, and today there is a self-acclaimed African dancehall king whom I respect so much. I introduced the terminology that they even spun off to identify a throne and claim it,” he said.
Samini further noted that the term Afro-dancehall emerged from his original African Dancehall concept, adding that it was introduced by his protégé, Stonebwoy.
Samini shares his approach to music promotion in the digital era
“Out of African Dancehall came Afro-dancehall from my protégé Stonebwoy, who is the originator of Afro-dancehall,” he added.
