The owner of the basketball team Spintex Knights, Dr. Opoku-Antwi, has stated that Ghana has the talent to develop a formidable national team.

According to Opoku-Antwi, building a strong and competitive national basketball team requires time and investment. However, with the right support, he believes Ghana can establish itself as a powerhouse in African basketball.

Speaking during an interview on Sports Check on GhanaWeb TV, he noted that Spintex Knights’ ability to compete with top teams from other African countries demonstrates that, when Ghana’s best players are assembled, they can form one of the strongest teams on the continent.

“We can start gradually if there’s funding. We can even begin with local players because when we travel to Nigeria, we beat all their teams. Spintex Knights don’t have all the best players in Ghana, so imagine if we put all the top players together to compete against Nigeria, we would demolish them,” he said.

Opoku-Antwi also highlighted the importance of gradual development, starting with local talent before incorporating players from abroad.

“I believe we can start with a local national team and build from there because, at the top level, we will need to bring in some of our players from abroad to compete,” he added.
