A wild road rage fist fight brought a Queensland motorway to a halt when two drivers exchanged blows before driving off at speed.

Social media footage showed a Holden Commodore driver standing in the middle of Currumburra Road at Ashmore on the Gold Coast about 12pm on Saturday.

The motorists could be seen yelling ‘come on’ to the driver of a Volkswagen Amarok ute before punching him through his car window.

He could also be heard screaming for the driver to exit the ute before punching him again.

The Volkswagen driver, who had been delaying traffic at a green light, then made a U-turn in front of the Holden.

He then drove back over the median strip to block the Commodore’s path.

The vision then showed the Commodore driver getting back into his vehicle before speeding away.

The VW then took off, apparently in pursuit.

The footage has since gone viral, with more than one million views.

Queensland Police said they were aware of the vision but a spokesman added: ‘No formal complaint has been made’.

One witness alleged the incident began after the Volkswagen cut off the Commodore on the motorway.

‘Guy in the sedan got out and threw a coffee at him,’ she wrote on Facebook.

‘The ute sped off and the sedan chased after him. Quite scary to witness.’

Other viewers of the footage condemned the embarrassing incident .

‘Acting up like toddlers throwing tantrums,’ one wrote.

‘Light is not getting any greener! just drive away instead of taking one on the chin,’ another said.
