Legendary Gospel musician Yaw Sarpong’s son, Kwame Sarpong, has spoken for the first time following the death of his father on January 20, 2026.

In an interview on Peace FM, he recalled his father’s final days and clarified events surrounding his return to the family house shortly before his passing.

He explained that the family had already decided to bring Yaw Sarpong home from the residence of Bishop JY Adu, where the singer had been staying and receiving care prior to the death of Maame Tiwaa, a member of the Asomafo band.

According to Kwame, the decision was not influenced by Maame Tiwaa’s passing, though the timing of their visit coincided with her death, sparking speculation that the two incidents were connected.

“We already had plans to bring him home before Maame Tiwaa passed away. It just happened that by the time we went to get him, that was when Maame Tiwaa died. His return home had nothing to do with her passing,” he said.

Before Yaw Sarpong’s relocation, Bishop JY Adu had cautioned that the singer should not be informed about Maame Tiwaa’s death due to concerns about his health and emotional state

Kwame Sarpong said he could not confirm whether his father was eventually told about her passing.

Meanwhile, Yaw Sarpong’s death sent shock waves through the Ghanaian music industry, coming just over a month after Maame Tiwaa died on December 7, 2025, following health complications.
