The famous and iconic Ghanaian film ‘I Told You So,’ released over 50 years ago, offered a unique look at Ghanaian culture, fashion and social issues in the 1970s. Theatre maker and director Fiifi Coleman has now hinted at a remake of the classic film.

Speaking at the media launch of a stage adaptation of Bob Cole’s ‘I Told You So,’ on February 6, 2026, the director, producer, and theatre maker disclosed that since the film originally began as a concert party, he wants to relive that era on stage.

The stage play is scheduled to run at the National Theatre from March 5 through March 8, 2026, with the remake of the film set to premiere on March 6, 2027.

“We’re reliving it from the concert party era to the stage, and then to the follow-up film, a remake of I Told You So, which we hope to premiere on March 6, 2027,” he said.

According to Fiifi Coleman, as Ghana approaches seventy years of independence, he and his team considered how best to celebrate the country’s legacy in film and theatre, which led to the stage adaptation and the film remake.

Fiifi further noted that the original ‘I Told You So’ is widely regarded as one of the greatest films to ever emerge from Ghana, making it a fitting project to tell the story of Ghanaian theatre as the country nears 70 years of independence.

‘Copy-copy’ stories, unqualified individuals led to the collapse of movie industry – Fiifi Coleman

“As Ghana is about to celebrate 70 years, we thought about two things. First, what is so iconic in an era 70 years back that is related to theatre, culture, film, and legacy? One film, iconic in all its ways and that stands out, is I Told You So.

“When you look at the history of I Told You So, it’s a journey from concert party under the writings of the great Bob Cole, then adopted by others to write a screenplay, which was directed for film.

“To this day, everyone who truly believes in film has celebrated I Told You So as one of the greatest films to ever come out of the motherland,” he noted.

Fiifi Coleman, in partnership with the National Theatre, will stage ‘I Told You So’ on March 5 and March 6, 2026, at 7 PM each night, and on March 7 and 8 at 4 PM and 8 PM.

For the remake of ‘I Told You So,’ Fiifi Coleman has assembled a mix of fresh faces and familiar talents. Among the cast are Highlife musician Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Clemeto Suarez, Beautiful, Deanconess Abokomah, Araba Dansowa, Fred Amugi and several others, promising a production that celebrates Ghanaian theatre and cinematic history.
