Perhaps he had aspirations beyond just starting a family, especially at a young age. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan.

Today, One Man, a trader at the Dome Market, reflects on his early parenthood with some regret.

He believes that if he had gone to school back then, he might not have become a father so early.

Speaking on GhanaWeb TV’s Everyday People program, he praised the free senior high school initiative, stating that if he had the opportunity, he wouldn’t have had a child so soon.

“Life became difficult, and I had to work as a cobbler to afford the registration fee of GH¢28.00 at the time. Attending senior high school was challenging back then, unlike now with the Free SHS initiative brought by Akufo-Addo.

“I had my first child in 1996. If I had been in school then, I wouldn’t have become a father that year because I would have been focused on my studies. But life doesn’t always go as planned. My first child graduated in 2014,” he shared.

One Man also recalled running a successful business from a container, selling a variety of goods.

However, things changed drastically when Oko Vanderpuije, the former Mayor of Accra, allegedly confiscated all his goods from the roadside during the NDC era.

Now, One Man sells his goods from a turntable trolley at the Dome Market.

“I started this job recently, but I used to sell provisions at Achimota, by the roadside near the bus stop. I had three containers: one for soap, one for milk, Milo, and other items, and one for storing extra stock. Then, one night during the NDC era, around 12 AM, Oko Vanderpuije cleared all my containers and the goods inside them. That’s why I now sell from this trolley,” he told GhanaWeb’s Victoria Kyei Baffour.
