The founder of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has explained that the non-Christian attitude of some gospel artistes in his church led to their exit.
He stated that these artistes became obsessed with fame and money, prioritizing these over the ultimate goal of winning souls for Christ and transforming lives through music.
The clergyman cited examples of how some of these artistes would attend the praise sessions during services but depart to perform elsewhere when it was time for prayers.
Pastor Chris indicated that their attitude, which was almost turning the church into a party event, led to God warning him about the situation.
However, these artistes decided to leave the church when he advised them to repent.
“Why did it happen? The church was turned into a party place, not a place of prayer where God’s word was truly celebrated. They were not soul winners; they led praise in church, and when it was time for prayers, they were gone.
“I initially celebrated them, but when I changed my approach, they refused to change with me, so I had to let them go. God was getting my attention, telling me this was not the way. I told them the Lord wanted us to do the right thing. They had become too popular, and because they were making money… do they know what big money is?” he said while preaching on his television. The Christ Embassy founder added that he hopes the artistes will prioritize God over money and fame in their music careers.
“The little money they were making was too attractive to them, so they didn’t want to follow me. So, they made a detour. I hope they all repent. They are not worship leaders,” he added.
Pastor Chris commented while addressing controversies surrounding the departure of popular gospel artistes such as Sinach, Frank Edwards, Joe Praize, and Eben from Christ Embassy after gaining fame.
