Renowned sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has stated that Manchester City midfielder Rodri’s brilliant performances for his team have deservedly earned him the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.

He explained that Rodri won several titles, including the English Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA EURO 2024, which makes him an obvious favorite for the award.

The Peace FM sports journalist argued that while Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr won the UEFA Champions League, Super Cup, and Spanish La Liga, Rodri’s national team laurels put him ahead of the Brazilian for the Ballon d’Or award.

“With Rodri, he had national team laurels in addition to club achievements, but Vinicius has only club-side honors, so he [Vinicius] not winning is not surprising. It’s right,” Kwaku Yeboah said while speaking on Peace FM.

Rodri is the first midfielder to win the prize since 2018, when Luka Modric was honored.

He is the first Premier League player to win the award since 2008, when Cristiano Ronaldo was triumphant while playing for Manchester United.

Rodri is currently injured and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury.
