Details have emerged about how some senior members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) allegedly prevented Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome/Kwabenya, from leaving her house for a scheduled radio interview.

Adwoa Safo has been on a media tour in recent days, engaging with several media stations to express her concerns about what she describes as prolonged unfair treatment. This comes despite her previous apology to the party and her constituency after facing family-related issues that led to her prolonged absence.

She was scheduled for an interview on Kessben TV/FM in Accra on the morning of Friday, March 21, 2025. However, listeners and viewers were left disappointed as they awaited the interview, which never took place.

As the delay continued, the host of the show, Kwame Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Mr. Speaker, was compelled to explain the situation to his audience.

“Adwoa Safo had gotten into her car and was about to leave her home for the interview. However, as she approached her gate, she was suddenly confronted by three Land Cruisers that blocked her path. Inside these vehicles were senior members of the NPP who insisted that she would not be allowed to leave for the interview. So, for those who were expecting to hear from Adwoa Safo, I regret to inform you that she has been ambushed in her own home by the leadership of the NPP,” the host stated.

Meanwhile, the NPP has referred Adwoa Safo to its National Disciplinary Committee over her recent media comments regarding the party’s performance in the 2024 elections.

This action follows the NPP’s earlier directive cautioning party members against making public statements that could create divisions within the party.

In a statement issued on Thursday, March 20, 2025, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that Adwoa Safo’s remarks defied party directives and undermined efforts to rebuild.

“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must refrain from discussing internal party issues in a manner that fosters unrest, negativity, and disaffection on media platforms. Her actions not only disregard this directive but also undermine the party’s rebuilding efforts.

“As a former Member of Parliament, former Deputy Majority Leader, and former Minister of State in the previous NPP administration, she was expected to set a good example by upholding the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that define our great party.

“Her failure to do so not only reflects poorly on her but also constitutes a breach of Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution, which, among other things, mandates members to promote and defend the party’s good name.

“In light of this violation, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party for further action.”
