Black Stars coach Otto Addo has provided a detailed explanation for his decision to strip Alexandre Djiku of his role as deputy skipper of the Black Stars.

Excerpts of Otto Addo‘s technical report on the 2025 African Cup of Nations, shared by Angel FM, indicate that the coach was not happy with the commitment of the Turkey-based defender.

According to the report, Otto Addo felt let down by what he views as a lie told by Alexandre Djiku regarding his reporting time for Ghana’s game against Sudan in Accra.

Otto Addo stated in his report that he had expected Djiku to arrive for the game on Friday, but the defender deceived him by saying he had a game on Saturday.

Otto Addo and the technical team discovered that, contrary to Djiku’s claims, he had no match that weekend, which infuriated Otto Addo and led him to make a decision on Djiku.

In the game against Sudan, played on October 15, the Black Stars, led by Kudus Mohammed, drew goalless.

The team subsequently lost the away match in Libya. The future of Otto Addo is uncertain after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In six matches played, the Black Stars won none, lost three, and drew three, finishing bottom of a group with Angola, Sudan, and Niger.
