Renowned Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams has endorsed George Boateng for the Black Stars’ assistant coach role, insisting that the former Dutch international is the ideal candidate.

This comes amid widespread rumors that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are set to dismiss current Black Stars assistant coaches Joseph Laumann and John Paintsil.

Reports suggest the GFA plan to bring in experienced individuals to support Otto Addo as the Black Stars gear up for World Cup qualification.

Speaking on Angel TV, Adams argued that this situation presents an opportunity for the GFA to appoint Boateng as assistant coach. Citing insights from a former Black Stars player, Adams highlighted Boateng’s influence and expertise, emphasizing how beneficial his leadership could be for the team.

“George Boateng wasn’t my initial choice, but after consulting with people around the team, including a highly respected former player, I began to see him in a different light. This former player, who is close to the team and has significant influence, shared valuable insights with me,” Adams said.

He also shed light on Boateng’s instrumental role in the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2022 World Cup, criticizing the GFA’s decision to hire less experienced coaches.

“The day before our match against Nigeria, Boateng sought advice from Louis van Gaal and even proposed the effective three-back system we used. Given his crucial role in our World Cup qualification, I question the decision to rehire assistant coaches who lack experience at both national and club levels,” Adams added.

Adams emphasized that the Black Stars’ path to reform and success hinges on appointing experienced coaches familiar with the team’s dynamics.

“To achieve success, we need someone who knows the team, its dynamics, and player histories. Hiring an outsider may lead to clashes with Otto Addo,” he concluded.
