Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, also known as Fred Achie, has clarified that all three proposals were voted on, once, because they fall under one article.

According to him, the three proposals deliberated on at the 31st Ordinary Session of Congress are within Article 37 of the GFA statutes, which led members to vote once on their approval.

The GFA ExCo member explained that the controversies in the public among some individuals questioning the voting process are baseless because they align with the statutes.

“All three proposals fall under one article, so, we can’t vote on each of them. If that’s the case, we wouldn’t have finished the voting process by now. The GFA statutes demand that, even if you disagree. For instance, I was against the Exco membership at 12 and wanted 22, but that wasn’t done. Even the Ghana constitution has instances where things are put together and voted on once.

“The amendment comes under Article 37. So, 37.2 talks about the election of a vice president, which will now change to allow for two vice presidents. Article 37.3 talks about the term of the president, which is four years for two terms but will now change to allow for three terms of four years. So, they weren’t different; it was one article we voted on,” Achie explained.

The 31st Ordinary Congress of the GFA extended the term limit of the president of the Ghana Football Association from two to three terms.

Congress also voted to accept the proposal for a second Vice President of the GFA, who will be a woman.

Out of the 124 members of Congress, including GFA president Kurt Okraku, 114 members voted in favour of the motion to extend the term limit of the leader of the association from two to three.
