The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed, has revealed how the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, prevented him from securing a ministerial appointment during the previous NDC administration.

Speaking during an interview on Accra News, monitored by GhanaWeb on Thursday, April 3, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Banda recounted his journey in Parliament.

“I have been in Parliament for 17 good years, and it was during my 17th year that I nearly got a ministerial appointment. During my first term, I almost became a minister, but Asiedu Nketiah blocked it because he believed I was inexperienced at the time,” he stated.

Ahmed Ibrahim advised first-time Members of Parliament to seek mentorship from experienced lawmakers, emphasising that the right opportunities would come with time and dedication.

“So, I urge all first-timers to learn from the seniors and let them mentor you. I was part of the first 11 ministers appointed by President Mahama. Patience is a virtue in politics, and young politicians should not rush or put unnecessary pressure on themselves. Hard work speaks for itself,” he stated.
