Thomas Partey (L) won the Ghana Footballer of the Year and Semenyo (R) was a nominee

Some Ghanaian football fans have expressed their fury after Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo narrowly missed the Ghana Footballer of the Year award for the 2025 edition of the scheme.

During the Ghana Football Awards, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was named Player of the Year following his performance in the year under review.

Reacting to this on social media, some football fans accused football authorities of rigging the award scheme to favour Partey due to his popularity.

They argued that in the 2024/2025 season under review, Semenyo had a better season, having played 42 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists for Bournemouth.

He also had a great performance with the Black Stars, netting goals to aid the country in the 2025 World Cup qualifications.

With these statistics, they believe it would have been fair for Semenyo to have been given the award instead of Partey, even though he had a good season as well.

Some individuals chastised the event organisers for being biased regarding the Ghana Footballer of the Year Award, saying it undermines the integrity of the awards.
