While it was not her desire to have her children live abroad while she remains in Ghana, circumstances left her with no other choice than to live with such a difficult situation.

This decision stemmed from repeated calls from Sarah Adwoa Safo‘s children’s school principal, alerting her about unknown drivers attempting to pick up her children from school.

The former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya and former Minister of Gender said events like the one above compelled her to relocate her children abroad several years ago.

She explained that her children’s safety was at risk due to her exposure as a public figure in politics.

She recounted instances where the school principal would call to confirm whether she had sent drivers to pick up her children.

In an interview with Okay FM, she stated that, “It wasn’t deliberate that I took my children abroad. My children are abroad because of sacrifices I made for the party, while I live here. During the chaos of the 2012 Election, which led us to court, I was constantly accompanying Nana Akufo-Addo to court proceedings.

“… One day, I received a call from my children’s school principal informing me that someone claiming to be a driver had come to pick them up. I told him I didn’t know the person and instructed him not to release my children. That was the second time such an incident had occurred,” the former MP said.

Reflecting on these dangers, she said she realised they were all politically exposed. For the sake of her children’s safety, she decided to relocate them abroad to avoid waking up to tragic news someday.

“After reflecting on these dangers, I realized that both their father and I were politically exposed. For the sake of the children, it was in their best interest to relocate abroad, ensuring we wouldn’t wake up to tragic news one day. Politics is a dirty game, and that’s why my children now live abroad while I remain here,” Adwoa Safo remarked in the interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.
