The Accra STEM Academy was built by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo . The President himself cut the sod for the construction of the academy in January 2022. The academy is part of the government’s vision to reposition the country’s educational system and produce highly skilled students .

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia inspected the ongoing construction of the Accra STEM Academy on Tuesday, October 11, 2024. The academy, which is about 85% complete, will offer education from kindergarten to senior high school, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) .

During the inspection, the Vice President expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and urged the contractor to complete it on schedule. The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, accompanied the Vice President on the inspection tour .

The Accra STEM Academy is part of the government’s efforts to promote STEM education in Ghana. Similar projects are ongoing in other regions, including the Namburugu STEM College of Education in the Northern Region .
