Minister of Sports and Recreation-designate, Kofi Adams Minister of Sports and Recreation-designate, Kofi Adams

Minister of Sports and Recreation-designate, Kofi Adams, has raised concerns about the standard of health services provided at various Ghana Premier League venues, following the death of Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley.

He questioned the absence of emergency response services, such as ambulances and medics, when Pooley was stabbed during the chaotic incident at Nsoatre.

The Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency asserted that if emergency health services were provided, the deceased could have been saved.

Speaking in an interview with Metro TV on Good Morning Ghana, Adams called for a review of emergency response services, including security, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“Where was the ambulance? Where were the medics? Were they close enough to offer specialized first aid? These are questions we must answer. This incident calls for a number of reviews. We must enhance security, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure our emergency response measures are up to standard,” he said.

Kofi Adams eulogized Pooley, commending him for his unwavering support for Kotoko, which made him stand out.

“He loved his sport. He supported his club everywhere they played. Even if the national team had just one Kotoko player, Pooley would be there, unless he couldn’t get a visa. This is the type of person we’ve lost,” he added.

He made these comments after Pooley was fatally stabbed during a melee at a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kotoko on February 2, 2025.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned Nsoatreman from using their home venue and initiated a probe into the violent incident.
