The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated that he is the right person to lead the country in the current dispensation.

Speaking in an interview with Global South World, which was aired on YouTube on Friday, November 29, 2024, Mahama, a former President of Ghana, said that the current difficulties the country finds itself in requires an experienced hand like his to fix it.

“We’ve hit a dead end. Our economy is in crisis, and everything else has a linkage to the economy. Inflation is up. We have a depreciating currency, and our whole macroeconomic framework is unbalanced,” Mahama said.

The former president added that he is coming out of ‘retirement’ to lead the country because he knows he has the skills set to get the country out of the current crisis it finds itself in.

He likened his re-election bid to the recall of retired generals to fight a war a country needs to win for its survival.

“When a country is at war and winning that war is critical in times of crisis, retired generals are called back to come and fight. And so, this is the time for retired generals. I would have loved to stay in retirement, but in Ghana, I am arguably the most experienced person when it comes to all levels of politics,” he bragged.

He pointed out that his policies, including the 24-hour economy policy, would give the country the needed impetus to bounce back.

“When you use your phone and it gets frozen, what do you do? You reset it, you restart it. And so we need to restart,” he added.
