President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

She succeeds Akwasi Agyeman, who resigned last week after an eight-year tenure.

The GTA, an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, is tasked with positioning Ghana as a leading sustainable tourism destination through technology, regulation, and innovation.

    Education

A product of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Girls Senior High School in Ho, Houadjeto earned her GCE O’Level and A’Level certificates, laying the groundwork for her academic pursuits.

She then obtained a Diploma in Communications, Journalism, and Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, aligning her formal training with her passion for media and strategic communication.

Further advancing her expertise, she secured a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a Postgraduate Degree in Engineering Project Management from Coventry University in the United Kingdom.

Currently, she is pursuing an MSc in Engineering and Management, exemplifying her dedication to lifelong learning and cross-disciplinary innovation.

    Professional Background

Maame Efua Houadjeto stands as a distinguished professional with over two decades of expertise spanning event production, project management, and leadership.

She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Image Consortium Group, a firm renowned for its strategic communications and branding solutions.

Concurrently, she serves as the Managing Director and Creative Director of IE Design, where she oversees bespoke interior and exterior design projects, merging aesthetic creativity with functional precision.

Beginning her career in the mid-1990s, she honed her skills as a Client Service & Marketing Executive at StratComm Africa (1995–1996) and later at Media Touch (1996–1998).

Her aptitude for client relations led her to Charter House Productions, where she pioneered client service strategies as Head of Client Service from 1998 to 1999.

Transitioning to the hospitality sector, she served as Room Division Manager at MPlaza Hotel (2000–2001) before rising to Acting General Manager in 2002–2003.

    Political Career

In addition to her professional and academic accomplishments, Houadjeto has carved a notable niche in Ghana’s political landscape.

As a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), she served as Deputy National Women’s Organiser, advocating vigorously for women’s empowerment and gender inclusivity within the party’s framework.

Her political aspirations led to her candidacy as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Mfantsiman Constituency during the 2024 elections, underscoring her commitment to public service and community development.
