Hakimi could face 15 years in prison if found guilty of rape charges Hakimi could face 15 years in prison if found guilty of rape charges

On Friday, August 1, 2025, French prosecutors ordered a probe into Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Achraf Hakimi over his alleged involvement in a rape case.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the case—originally reported in 2023—has been revived following ongoing developments.

The Nanterre prosecutor’s office is reported to have requested that the judge overseeing the investigation refer the case to a criminal court.

“It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order,” the prosecutor’s office told AFP in a statement.

The 26-year-old faces up to 15 years in prison—the maximum sentence for non-aggravated rape in France.

    Hakimi’s Lawyer

The embattled PSG defender’s lawyer, Fanny Collin, described the move as “senseless” and stated that her client is prepared to respond.

“These requisitions are incomprehensible and senseless in light of the evidence in the case. It establishes the plaintiff’s lies, particularly through the psychological assessments conducted on her.

“Achraf Hakimi and I, remain as calm as when the proceedings began. If these requests were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal,” she told Le Parisien.

Hakimi remains free on bail while awaiting the investigating judge’s decision.

About the rape case (as reported by French outlet Le Parisien)

A 24-year-old woman told the police she met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023.

After a month of exchanges, he reportedly ordered her an Uber to his home in Boulogne-Billancourt.

His wife—Spanish-Turkish actress Hiba Abouk, 38—was reportedly on holiday in Dubai with their two young sons at the time.

Once inside, the woman claims Hakimi kissed her mouth and breasts through her clothes, despite her protests.

She alleged that he then assaulted her without consent.

According to her account, she managed to push him away with her foot before fleeing and texting a friend to pick her up.

She went to a police station the same day to “make a statement of rape,” though she initially declined to file a formal complaint.

Messages she later provided to investigators reportedly showed her distress following the encounter.

On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was charged with rape by an investigating judge and placed under judicial supervision after being held in custody.

The Moroccan international has vehemently denied the allegations.

    However, investigations are ongoing.

    Kylian Mbappe’s reaction

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe defended his close ally Hakimi, saying he would never act in a way that would damage his reputation.

“Achraf Hakimi is respectful toward women. Even when drunk, I’ve never seen him act inappropriately… Even on the occasion when I wasn’t present, I never heard from any female friends that he had behaved badly or crossed the line,” Mbappe said, as reported by msn.com.
