Filmmaker and musician Wanlov has shared a little-known chapter from his childhood, explaining why he was transferred from North Ridge Lyceum to Christ the King during his basic school years by the Rawling family.
In an interview with Kafui Dey which aired on February 23, 2026, Wanlov disclosed that he got into an altercation with Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings, the second daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, while they were both pupils at North Ridge Lyceum. Following the incident, he was transferred to another school.
“I got into a small altercation, which I’m not proud of, with Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings. She was bullying me and I didn’t like that so they moved me to Christ the King,” Wanlov shared.

According to him, the Rawlings family decided he could no longer remain in the same school with the former president’s daughter after the altercation.
He said they asked him which school he would prefer to attend, and he mentioned Christ the King, noting that it had been his first choice before enrolling at North Ridge Lyceum.
“Rawlings family, they said I have to leave the school, and so where do I want to go? I couldn’t get into Christ the King first, so I mentioned it, and they took me there, just to be away,” he said.
Wanlov added that the incident from their childhood remains a sensitive matter for the Rawlings family.
“The family is not pleased with this history,” he stated.
When asked whether he was happy to finally attend Christ the King, since it had initially been his preferred school, Wanlov said he had mixed feelings. While he was glad to join his brother and sister there, he also cherished the friendships he had built at North Ridge.
“I was happy my brother and sister were there. I liked North Ridge and I like the friends I had there and I also like the friends I made in Christ the King, some are lifelong friends,“ he added.
Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings is the second daughter of the late former Head of State and President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings. She had her early education at Achimota before continuing at Trinity College.
She later obtained her first degree from the University of Dublin in Ireland and earned a master’s degree from Boston University.
