The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed his admiration for the growth of armwrestling in Ghana, highlighting its role in uplifting sporting disciplines and making the nation proud.
According to him, the sport has made significant progress and is now among the leading disciplines in the country, given the continued success of athletes in international competitions.
The minister emphasised that the structure and foundation laid in armwrestling require substantial investment to elevate the sport to even higher standards.
“The founding fathers of African sports emanated from this country, and we must reclaim that space. I know armwrestling is another gateway through which we can claim that honor. When a sport shows structure, discipline, and results, it deserves investment, and that is what armwrestling has achieved in Ghana.

“Here, you have shown discipline, you have shown results, and we must support you. I am not going to do this for armwrestling as a favor, but because it deserves it,” he said.
Kofi Adams commended the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, for his steady leadership and the measures he has implemented to enhance the sport’s development and produce talents capable of winning laurels in competitions.
“President Charles Osei Asibey, a barrister, has played a significant role in shaping armwrestling into what it is today. Under his leadership, the sport has grown beyond competition into a tool for youth employment, sports diplomacy, and international visibility.
“For Ghana, with what you have started, you have built something with a solid foundation. You are doing something that has structure, something that is showing progress. You truly have a purpose, and when I see one, I identify with it. We want to encourage it to grow even further,” he added.
