Mavis Asante wants to only collaborate with artistes in the gospel music industry Mavis Asante wants to only collaborate with artistes in the gospel music industry

Gospel singer Mavis Asante has stated that she will not engage in collaborations with secular musicians, questioning the benefit such partnerships would bring to her ministry.

In a recent interview with Bryt TV, the award-winning gospel artiste explained that until she can clearly determine what she stands to achieve from working with mainstream acts, she will steer clear of such collaborations.

“If I want to collaborate with Sarkodie, Shatta Wale or Kelvyn Boy, what do I achieve at the end of the day? Is it for fame, for money, or because they have numbers? Until I can answer that, there’s no point,” she said.

Mavis Asante said she is content working within the gospel fraternity and prefers to align with gospel artistes whose music reflect her faith.

“Why would I leave Joe Mettle to collaborate with Kelvyn Boy? What do I gain from it?” she asked.

She, however, stated that she has no problem with her colleague gospel artistes collaborating with secular artistes, adding that her stance is a personal choice and not a judgement on her colleagues.

“I have no problem if my colleagues partner with secular musicians. Everyone can do what they want, just as some people choose to eat fufu and others choose banku,” she noted.

The gospel singer added that she holds respectful relationships with several secular artistes but said that her songs should be strictly gospel for now.

“For me, I ask myself what I want to achieve from that. Until I can answer that, I cannot collaborate with a secular artiste,” she said.
