Traditional leaders in Ghana’s Western Region have pledged their full support for Dr. Toni Aubynn, CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), as he spearheads efforts to realise the ambitious Petroleum Hub Project.
The chiefs expressed optimism about the project’s potential to drive economic growth, create thousands of jobs, and position Ghana as Africa’s leading petroleum hub upon completion.
During a courtesy call by Dr. Aubynn and his team to the Western Regional House of Chiefs in Sekondi on March 21, 2025, the traditional rulers lauded his extensive expertise in both the mining and petroleum industries.
They acknowledged his track record of leadership and expressed confidence that, under his stewardship, the Petroleum Hub Project would be successfully executed.
“We believe Dr. Aubynn has the right experience and leadership to make this project a reality. His background in both mining and petroleum gives us confidence that he will navigate this initiative effectively,” Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs said.
Another chief, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, emphasised the project’s benefits for local communities, stating, “This project is not just about oil; it is about development, job creation, and the future of our youth. We, as traditional leaders, stand fully behind Dr. Aubynn and his team.”
Dr. Aubynn, in response, expressed gratitude for the chiefs’ support and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the Petroleum Hub Project benefits both the region and the nation.
“The endorsement of our traditional leaders is crucial. We are committed to working closely with all stakeholders to make this vision a reality, ensuring that it brings prosperity to the people of Ghana,” he stated.
The Petroleum Hub Project is a key initiative by the Ghanaian government aimed at developing a world-class petroleum and petrochemical industry. Once completed, it is expected to attract significant foreign investment, enhance energy security, and position Ghana as a major player in Africa’s oil and gas sector.
