Alabaster Box say the legal battle with rapper Medikal is far from over, and according to them, it did not have to get this far.

The gospel group, speaking on Hitz FM, made it clear that the dispute is still before the courts. They stressed that they had explored dialogue and compromise before choosing litigation, but those efforts did not yield results.

“We’re still in court… He knows we’re in court. Everybody knows we’re in court. The wheels of justice grind slowly. I think it’s the right thing to do,” they said.

The group explained that their initial approach was guided by what they described as restraint and goodwill. They insisted there was no hostility behind their attempts to reach Medikal’s camp.

“We extended the olive branch, and we showed seniority and common sense. Maturity. It wasn’t out of anger or malice,” they said.

According to Alabaster Box, the first step was to contact individuals close to the rapper. Discussions progressed to the point where a neutral intermediary was introduced to facilitate engagement between both sides.

However, the tone shifted when legal representation entered the picture. The duo said they appointed a lawyer to serve as their intermediary, a move they claim derailed the talks.

“We’ve tried to approach it outside the court system. The first thing we did was call his people and we got in touch with them, and then they brought in a middle person. Then we said, ‘okay then let’s also bring our middle person,’ and the middle person we brought just happened to be a lawyer. And they ran away from that. It wasn’t like we were going to squeeze them,” the group said.

With negotiations stalling, the matter proceeded formally through the courts. The group revealed that after unsuccessful attempts to serve Medikal with legal documents, the court approved substitute service.

They added that any further attempt at settlement can now only happen within the framework of the ongoing court process, noting that the issue has moved beyond their direct control and sits squarely with the judiciary.
