Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has demonstrated her generosity by donating Ghc10,000 to support traders affected by the devastating fire at Kantamanto Market in Accra.

The fire, which erupted on January 2, 2025, destroyed over 7,000 shops and displaced more than 30,000 traders, leaving many in dire need of assistance.

The award-winning musician visited the scene to personally hand over her donation and interact with the affected traders.

The “Too Late” crooner during her visit to the market expressed her sympathy to the market woman in this difficult time.

She also called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to join in supporting the victims.

The Kantamanto Market, renowned as one of the largest secondhand clothing hubs globally, plays a vital role in Ghana’s economy, particularly within the informal sector.

The tragic fire not only disrupted livelihoods but also underscored the need for improved safety measures in market spaces.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with initial findings pointing to faulty electrical connections. However, arson has not been ruled out, and cleanup efforts are ongoing to restore some normalcy to the bustling market.
