Bechem United will host Asante Kotoko at Nana Gyeabour Park on Sunday in what promises to be an intense encounter between two clubs with contrasting recent forms in the Ghana Premier League.

Historically, Bechem United and Asante Kotoko have faced each other six times since November 2021, with Kotoko holding a slight edge. The Porcupine Warriors have won twice, while Bechem United have managed one victory; the remaining three encounters ended in draws.

Their most recent clash was a goalless draw on April 6, 2024. Despite Kotoko’s narrow advantage in head-to-head meetings, both teams have scored sparingly, with Bechem netting three goals and Kotoko scoring four in those six games, highlighting a typically balanced matchup.

Bechem United currently sit with two wins, five draws, and two defeats this season. While they have struggled to find the net consistently, scoring only six goals across nine matches, their defense has been solid, conceding just six times as well. However, they’ve been on a drawing streak lately, sharing points in their last three games against Nsoatreman, Karela, and Vision FC. In their last six games, Bechem have won twice, with victories over Medeama SC and Dreams FC, and lost once against Bibiani Gold Stars.

Asante Kotoko, on the other hand, come into this game after back-to-back defeats to Heart of Lions and Legon Cities, putting them on a two-game losing streak. However, the Porcupine Warriors have shown better form overall, recording four wins, three draws, and two losses this season. In their last six games, they have achieved three 1-0 wins against Samartex, Accra Lions, and Nsoatreman. Their goal-scoring is also modest, with only eight goals from nine matches, although they have matched Bechem’s defensive record by conceding just six.

Given both sides’ recent defensive records, Sunday’s encounter is expected to be a tightly contested battle. Bechem’s drawing habit and Kotoko’s defensive resilience hint at another close affair, with both clubs looking to secure a much-needed win to strengthen their positions in the league standings.
