Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu, has urged the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts to collaborate with private developers to establish more cinemas in key locations across the country.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, the actor highlighted the challenges facing Ghana’s movie industry, particularly the lack of accessible venues for film premieres and screenings.

Kwaku Manu expressed concern over the dominance of Nigerian movies in major cinemas, stating that while Ghanaians produce quality films, they often struggle to secure premieres in these spaces.

He emphasized the need for strategic investments to build cinemas in areas like Adabraka and Kasoa, where residents currently have limited access to such facilities.

According to him, increasing the number of cinemas nationwide would not only boost the local film industry but also create jobs and provide entertainment options for communities outside the capital.

“If I were the Minister of Creative Arts, I would sit with private developers to help invest in or set up halls at major locations around the country.

“Someone in Kasoa shouldn’t have to travel all the way to Accra just to watch a movie. If there were cinemas closer to home, it would benefit everyone; investors, producers, and viewers alike,” he stated.

Kwaku Manu’s comments come at a time when Ghana’s creative arts sector is seeking more support to compete with industry giants like Nigeria.
