The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has said that his outfit is aware of the high expectations Ghanaians have for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He stated that based on the team’s performances in previous World Cups where they reached the Round of 16 and the quarter-finals, many fans are expecting a similar run in the upcoming tournament.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, Asante Twum noted that the Black Stars’ technical team is aware of the expectations and is preparing accordingly to avoid making excuses.

“When Ghana goes to every tournament, people are expectant. Expectations, for me, will never go down because we have a partisan crowd. We have people who love football, and they don’t care about excuses. And it’s not as if we haven’t done it before, we’ve done it before.”

“We did it in 2006 as the only African team to make it to the second round. We did it in 2010 as the only African team to make it to the quarter-final. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well in Brazil and in Qatar four years ago. So Ghana will always go into competitions with huge expectations from the people, and this, for me, will now escalate that level of expectations. But the coaches are aware,” he said.

The Black Stars have been placed in Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia.
