The management of Accra Academy School says it has launched a joint investigation with the police into a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread outrage.

A viral video circulating on social media appears to show a senior student flogging a junior with a cutlass.

The footage generated intense backlash, with many users calling for the perpetrator’s arrest.

Following the incident, the school’s management issued a statement assuring parents and guardians that the matter is being thoroughly investigated.

The management has urged them to remain calm, stating that appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is complete.

“It is understandable that this incident has caused alarm and worry among our parents and guardians, and we want to assure you that we take this matter very seriously,” the statement read.

The school further clarified that the incident occurred on January 17, 2025, but only came to light recently when the video surfaced on social media, prompting the victim to report it to the authorities.

The school also stated that it has identified all students involved and contacted their parents, with some parents already providing statements.

The student responsible for the incident has been handed over to the police for further questioning, according to the statement from the school.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We understand the concern this video has caused, and we are committed to investigating this matter thoroughly,” the school said in its statement.

“The students involved in the incident are day students and have been asked to stay away from the school while the investigation is ongoing. The weapon used was reportedly the flat side of a machete that was brought from the perpetrators’ homes and not from the school’s premises.”
