Flag of the New Patriotic Party, NPP

Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, commonly known as Wofa K, the chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s UK chapter, has said that the results of the general elections in 2024 are not wholly unexpected.

According to him, he had high hopes and was particularly expecting that Ghanaians would vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), considering the massive achievements they had chalked under President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Wofa K noted that it is unfortunate that the party suffered a humiliating defeat and it would be proper for them to reorganise and put their house in order.

“We did a lot of work. People had sacrificed and moved to the trenches and remote areas to go and campaign. This is not what we expected. We had put in a lot of work. I must commend Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for their hard work. They invested a lot in the campaign. They run a very good campaign, and if the campaign was what was used in determining the winner of the elections, we would have won the elections massively.

“But our expectations were not met. I am sure by our own attitude and way of doing things, we lost touch with the people. The results were not surprising because if you checked the second position Mahama chalked in 2020, it is the same number he won with. Over two million people did not vote. I was not too surprised by the results. We had done our best to ensure that we would have prevented Mahama from winning, but we could not achieve our expected objective.

Generally, when you examine the work done irrespective of the deficit of COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian war, which a lot pretend did not affect us, you will realise the NPP has done a lot for the country, but we lost the elections,” he said while speaking in an interview with Sir Richie.

He added that “if Ghanaians had granted the NPP an opportunity to continue, we would have witnessed a straight continuation of what the outgoing government had achieved.”
